Noise

As of April 2006 a new EU noise directive was introduced and this came into the UK Law under “The 2005 Control of Noise at Work Regulation”. The 2005 regulation replaced the Noise at Work Regulation 1989. In essence the two main noise exposure thresholds were reduced by 5dB(A), from 90dB(A) to 85dB(A) and 85dB(A) to 80dB(A), whereby action must be taken. In addition there is also now an upper limit of 87dB(A).

First steps

On initially contacting us, we will provide a free consultation to understand your workplace, issues, concerns and needs. This will usually provide sufficient information to suggest if a noise assessment survey is necessary. We will then provide a quote to carry out an in-depth noise assessment.

The Survey

A “walk-through” of the workplace in question will be undertaken to understand type of environment, machinery layout, number of employees, work pattern etc. The assistance of the customer and operators are imperative, to ensure shift patterns, breaks, day-to-day activities etc are understood in order for an accurate assessment to be taken. On completion of the noise assessment, the customer will be advised in brief of the findings. Any high-risk area will be identified and advised immediately.

The Report

The noise levels obtained will be evaluated and a full written report will be provided, which will comply with the Noise at Work Regulations. The survey will state at risk employees and workstation areas and recommendations will be provided, where possible to change the employee work patterns. If this, however, isn’t a possibility options will be provided for hardware solutions.
